Communicable Diseases
The AISB Elementary Health Office helps prevent and control communicable diseases. Parent/legal guardian is obligated to inform AISB of student’s absence due to communicable disease. AISB regulations for most common communicable diseases:
Chicken pox
Student is excused from school until free of symptoms (usually 6-7 and up to 10 days). Face and hands should be free of scabs.
Conjunctivitis (Pink eye)
Student is excused from school until her/his eye inflammation has been treated and resolved.
Pediculosis (Head Lice)
AISB recommends that parents/legal guardians regularly inspect their child’s head for presence of lice or nits (lice eggs) especially after school breaks and vacations. Parents have the prime responsibility for detecting and treating head lice.
Parents/legal guardians should immediately notify AISB of head lice presence and keep their child home until free of live lice and nits.
AISB will run head lice screening when needed.
An AISB student found with head lice or nits will be immediately referred to the parents/legal guardians for treatment and sent home with treatment guidelines. The child will be allowed to come back to school after clearance from the School Nurse.
